drama
At Rose Hill, we use drama across the curriculum to bring learning to life and create memorable learning experiences for all. We use Stockport’s DEAL (drama, engagement and active learning) principles and strategies to support our teaching and learning. Some of these strategies include:
- Hot seating where a character is interviewed to explore their thoughts and motives further
- Creating an opinion line so the whole class can express their ideas simultaneously
- Creating news reports to present factual, historical and fictional information.
In lessons, children will have opportunities to use drama strategies to deepen their understanding and explore different points of view.
Why do we do drama?
- Children are active in their learning
- Emotional and experiential learning increases attention and retention
- Imaginative contexts inspire purposeful learning
- Collaboration and co-operation skills are developed
- Drama processes ignite curiosity, provoke enquiry and demand critical thinking
